Bio:
Danielle Vu (she/her) is a PhD student at UC Santa Barbara whose research interests lie in the intersection of gender, medicine, and knowledge. She is broadly interested in how and why medical providers reproduce language and systems of imbalanced power that facilitate stigma and narratives of misery. Danielle earned her B.A. in Sociology summa cum laude from the Smittcamp Family Honors College at Fresno State, where she was a McNair Scholar, CSU Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholar, and graduate of the College of Social Sciences Honors Thesis Program. Her previous research experience includes 1) an exploration of political institutions and healthcare policy in presidential speeches 2) meta-analysis of journal article manuscripts on culturally responsive, relevant, and sustaining pedagogies in postsecondary education 3) logistic regression to understand the correlation between age and transgender patient perceptions of discrimination when receiving healthcare 4) qualitative content analysis of online narratives of gender euphoric experiences among transmasculine Reddit communities.
