Flacks Fund for the Study of Democratic Possibilities.
The Flacks Fund supports research and education that explores the conditions – social, psychological and cultural – for democratic citizenship, the enhancement of democratic participation, and effective citizen action for social justice. The Fund honors Professor Emeritus Richard “Dick” Flacks, whose life work is focused on understanding and promoting responsible social change aimed at enhancing democracy and social equality. Annual grants are awarded to support educational events and Sociology graduate student research that supports these values.
Chair’s Fund for Excellence.
This general Fund can be used to support sociological research and teaching and enhance the intellectual life of the Department.
Sociology 50-Year Anniversary Fund.
The Anniversary Fund was established in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Sociology’s PhD program, which was founded during the 1964-65 academic year. The Fund will support summer writing fellowships for Sociology graduate students. By creating opportunities for uninterrupted writing and publishing over the summer months, the Fund will increase our students’ job-market competitiveness with those from privately-funded programs. Approximately $4,000 will support one graduate student for one summer.
