Bio

I study how youth inequality structures and is structured by educational and community experiences. I also focus on the ways inequality is contested by young people and adult youth workers. My current research project is focused on the juxtaposition of student support and discipline. Specifically, I explore how race, class, and masculinity shape the educational pathways and/or exclusions experienced by Latino youth through the types of support they receive at schools and in the community. My research has been supported by the Center for Publicly Engaged Scholarship at UCSB, UCSB Graduate Division’s Opportunity Fellowship, the UC Office of the President, and CARE International.
