Making Livable Lives: Transgender Data Justice on
Violence and Joy

What comprises data justice for transgender people? This talk explores that question by examining the past, present, and future of two areas of knowledge: a) violence against transgender people and b) transgender joy. Although these may seem like disparate topics, they are intertwined since to improve the livability of transgender lives we must both decrease violence and increase joy. Moreover, one way to reduce violence against transgender people is to attend to transgender joy. Current knowledge about both violence against transgender people and transgender joy is hampered by lack of data collection as well as errors in both data collection and analysis. To address these this talk will work towards increasing data justice by discussing when to collect data on transgender lives, how to collect that data, and what kinds of data must be collected in order to increase the livability of trans lives.
