Bio

I am a doctoral student working primarily at the intersections of race, gender, culture and embodiment, I study the experiences of Black women in ballet. I write about the racial, gendered and cultural foundations of creative spaces, work and occupations, aesthetic and emotional labor and elites. I have received scholarships from ASA Sociology of Culture’s COVID-19 Crisis Grant Award, the University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Sociology, Flacks Fund for the Study of Democratic Possibilities Award and the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport Barbara Brown Outstanding Student Paper Award recipient. I also work with a non-profit organization called Brown Girls Do Ballet and America Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive in Orange County, California.
